From July 15 through July 19, 2024, with the generous support of the Southborough Library and Southborough Community Fund, 11 fourth- through eighth-graders learned the skills to report news through the writing and drawing of comics. They practiced drawing cartoon figures and likenesses of real people. They interviewed sources, from the Southborough Police Chief to a Boston Globe sports reporter. They found compelling angles in the research they gathered. And they planned out and drew final versions of comics pages that explained and illustrated their news stories.
Below are stories about U.S. political parties; Deborah Bianca, the founder and owner of Dance Theater of New England; and a runaway pet tortoise in Southborough, Massachusetts.
The Southborough Comics Journalism Camp would like to also thank the Southborough Police Department, the Southborough Recreation Department, the Southborough Library, The Dance Theater of New England, Boston.com, Lila Shields, Deborah Todd and Kristen Rosero.
