READ BEYOND THE BEATEN PATH

Read Beyond the Beaten Path is our Summer Reading theme that combines camp, adventure, and skill development for summer camp at the library. Help the library reach our goal of 90,000 minutes read by kids this summer! We are counting minutes through August 31st. We can't wait to have fun with young readers this summer!

What you need to know:

~Registration: Sign up in person in the Children’s Room or online at bit.ly/2022RegSummer.

~Reading Logs: These are available starting on June 21 in the Children’s Room. You can also track your reading online through Beanstack: https://southboroughlib.beanstack.com/reader365. This year we are tracking minutes read, so bring your reading logs into the library and we will keep track of number of minutes read, both through paper logs and online. You can learn more about how to register online or on paper!

~Book Bingo: There are two Book Bingo challenges this summer, one from the librarians and one from the Boston Bruins which is available in the Children's Room downstairs. Read to complete one or both!

~Activities: Lots of things to hunt for this summer in the Children’s Room! Our woodland animals will be hiding in new spots each week. There will also be hidden letters each week to find and unscramble to make a summer-related word! Don’t forget to try the “Five Things to Do This Week” challenge whenever you come in the library!

~Prizes: Enter to win weekly Summer Reading prizes! You can enter every time you check out items from the library. Winners will be drawn every Monday!

~Events: There are many events happening this summer! Most will be held outside on the library lawn, weather permitting. Please see the Event Calendar on the library website at https://www.southboroughlib.org/events.asp

~Ducks: The traveling ducks are ready for a summer of traveling! Check out a duck from the library and take it on a trip or hang out around the house. Report back on where your duck has been and share pictures!

Welcome to Summer Reading 2021 -- June 21 to August 20

Get Started with Your Reading Right Here!

The Southborough Library is excited for another fun summer with all programs outside together with you! The theme for this year's Summer Reading is “Tails and Tales.” We see many animals around us every day many of whom have tails as well as stories to tell! Summer Reading with the library is all about reading anything you like as well as coming together to share stories. Register for Summer Reading using this link: https://bit.ly/2021RegSummerRead. Each child is a separate registration.
  • Reading logs: These will be available online, in Summer Reading packets both in the Children’s Room and outside on the curbside pickup tables. Track how many books you read and either bring your reading logs into the library or email Miss Kim (kivers@southboroughma.com) with the number of books read. The librarians will keep track of the total number of books read this summer. Return your reading logs with the numbers of books read at any time… daily, weekly, or monthly.
  • Beanstack is another way to track your summer reading online! Download the app today and learn more about Beanstack here.
  • Activity Packets: These will be available weekly for pickup both inside the library and outside on the curbside pickup tables. Each week there will be a challenge, game, coloring page, and a craft! These are also accessible on our website.
  • Book Bingo: The Boston Bruins have put together a book bingo challenge this year! See how many squares you can cross off!
  • Prizes: Enter to win weekly Summer Reading prizes! You can enter every time you come in the library to check out items. Raffle tickets will also be distributed to everyone attending outdoor events all summer. Winners will be drawn every Monday!
  • Events: Lots of events this summer! All events will happen outside on the library lawn. Please see the Event Calendar on the library website.
  • Ducks: The travelling ducks are back! Check out a duck from the library and take it on a trip. Report back on where your duck has been and see where other ducks have travelled to! Ducks will also be available through curbside pickup.

WELCOME TO SUMMER READING 2020! June 22- August 21

Get Started with Your Reading Right Here!

This will be a summer unlike any other, but the Library is still working to provide reading and other activities to keep your families busy! This is what’s happening:
  • The theme for Summer Reading this year is “Imagine Your Story.” Read anything you like, but with this theme also try a book about dragons, fairy tales, or unicorns!
  • Please register for Summer Reading using this link: bit.ly/sblibSUMMER2020Each child is a separate registration.
  • Reading logs are available to print on the Library’s website and through curbside pickup at the library. You can indicate on your registration which way you prefer. Email Miss Kim with your numbers of books read at any time… daily, weekly, monthly. Beanstack is another way to track your summer reading! A weekly update will be provided on how many books have been read by all Summer Reading participants.
  • Book Bingo gives everyone a lot of different ways and places to read. An extra challenge is not just to get Bingo but to complete all the squares! This can be done throughout the summer. Please feel free to share with the library if you finish the whole board!
  • There will be a “Weekly Challenge” every week for nine weeks. This will be included in packets for curbside pickup and also posted on the Library’s website and Facebook page. After the challenge is complete, email Miss Kim photos. Pictures of each challenge will be posted online the following week.
  • There will also be a weekly Scavenger Hunt with ten items to find around your house and outside. Lists will be available at curbside pickup and also on the Library’s website and Facebook page. This is just for fun… but if you would like to let us know if you finish the hunt, please do!
  • "Take It and Make It” craft kits will be available for curbside pickup starting the week of June 29. Each kit will have materials and instructions to complete a craft project, along with any other information about that week’s activities.
  • Go on a window hunt! Each week we will provide a new picture to go in your window. Color the picture, cut it out, and tape it in your window. As you go around town, see how many of the pictures you see in windows.
  • Check our website and Facebook page often for upcoming special events, including Story Times on Facebook Live with Miss Kim and staff guest readers, music with David Garden, and more!
